Gulf Specimen Marine Lab can provide you with 8 to 21 day old post larval white shrimp Penaeus (Litopenaeus) setiferus produced in the hatchery of American Shrimp, Ltd in Panacea, Florida. The moment we introduced some into our tanks we were sold on them as being the ideal food. Our sea horses and pipe fish went nuts, and began gobbling them down. Even picky eaters like the round head batfish, baby electric rays and moonfish jumped into a feeding frenzy. Sea anemones and coral polyps bloomed, starfish stretched out their arms like we had never seen before. Why? It’s because Penaeid shrimp are the base of the food chain. Everything eats shrimp; the larvae that hatch by the trillions are swept from the open sea into the estuaries where hungry predators eagerly await them.
